Noteworthy Portfolios: September 2026
3 standout public portfolios created by the EuroFolio community this month, picked from a pool of 18 for genuine strategy variety and interest, not just the highest backtest return.
Half gold, and it actually worked
Putting 50% of a portfolio into a single gold ETF is the sort of call most advisers would flinch at, yet the drawdown stayed under 10% while returns kept pace with a plain equity tracker. The rest is a sensible spread of value, dividend and energy equities with a small bond sleeve. The catch is that the backtest window coincides with a strong run for gold, so anyone copying this is partly betting that the run repeats.
Sixty percent European banks, no apologies
A single European banking ETF carries most of the weight here, and that concentration explains both the standout 26.8% annual return and a drawdown above 23%. The remaining 40% is spread thinly across tech, value, dividend and emerging market funds, which does little to soften the bank exposure. Treat it as a high-conviction sector bet that happened to ride a favourable rate environment, not as a core holding.
Bond ballast with covered call yield on top
With 61% in a floating rate loan fund and the rest split across covered call ETFs on the Nasdaq, S&P, Australian market and gold, this is built for cash flow rather than growth. Volatility under 5% is strikingly low for something holding that many option-income funds, though the 9% drawdown shows the loan fund is not risk free. The history is only 3.2 years, so it has not yet been tested through a full credit cycle.
